Arch Coal's Teacher Achievement Awards Program Plans for Fifth Year in Wyoming

Wright, Wyo. (July 19, 2004) - The Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards program will celebrate its fifth year in Wyoming with the 2004-2005 school year.
"Arch Coal is very pleased with the public's support of our program," said Arch Coal's Vice President of External Affairs Greg Schaefer. "It is apparent that Wyoming residents appreciate our teachers and want to help us recognize classroom teaching excellence."
In the past four years, Arch Coal has awarded 40 classroom teachers from around the state with a total of $100,000 in cash awards. Ten more Wyoming teachers each will receive a $2,500 cash award in the next school year.
With the start of the new school year, nomination forms will be sent to all Wyoming schools, and the forms will be available on the company's Web site (http://www.archcoal.com/community/teacherawards.asp) and at MiniMart and Taco John's locations in Wyoming. In addition, the Wyoming Education Association will again partner with the company in supporting the awards program and provide a link from its Web site to the nomination form. The program also has the support of the Wyoming Department of Education and the Office of the Governor.
"Arch Coal appreciates the continued support of MiniMart, Taco John's, the Wyoming Education Association, Wyoming Department of Education, and the Governor in promoting or supporting Arch Coal's teacher recognition program," Schaefer said.
The Arch Coal teacher recognition program is unique because it features public nomination and peer selection. A blue-ribbon panel of experienced educators, including some who have previously won the Arch Coal award, select 10 recipients from in-depth submissions provided by the nominated teachers.
Arch Coal is the one of the nation's largest coal producers and employs approximately 650 people in Wyoming. Arch produces more than 65 million tons of clean-burning, low-sulfur coal annually at its Wyoming operations. The company's Black Thunder operation in Campbell County is one of the nation's largest and most efficient coal mines. Arch Coal is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: ACI) and maintains its corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.
