Hotchkiss K-8 Teachers Featured

SOMERSET. (Oct. 9, 2009) - Several Delta County teachers have starring roles in an Arch Coal video production about the innovative teaching grants program, according to Don Vickers, general manager of Mountain Coal Company's West Elk mine.

"The Arch Coal Foundation always considered its grant recipients to be stars in the classroom," said Vickers. "Now, these brief videos provide them with the opportunity to share their teaching styles and how they used the grants in their classrooms."

The videos are posted on the Internet at www.youtube.com/archcoalcares. They feature a composite video that includes past Arch Coal Foundation Innovative Teaching Grant recipients Linda Hodges, Karla Nolte, Debbie Lange, Kelly Rienks and Tara Cox. Hodges and Nolte also appear in individual videos.

This is the third year for the grants program in Delta County. The Arch Coal Foundation will award up to $10,000 in grants to K-12 teachers. Each grant will cover costs of up to $500 for each teacher-initiated, innovative instructional idea in the 2009-2010 school year. Grant recipients will be notified by the second week in October.
