Arch Coal's Fourth Quarter Conference Call To Be Webcast, Podcast

ST. LOUIS (January 16, 2007) – Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE:ACI) will discuss its fourth quarter 2006 financial results in a conference call that will be broadcast live over the Internet on Friday, Feb. 2 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Participating on the call will be Arch's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steven F. Leer, President and Chief Operating Officer John W. Eaves and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Robert J. Messey.

The webcast will be accessible via the "investor" section of the Arch Coal Web site at http://investor.archcoal.com. Following the live event, a replay and podcast download will be available on the site for approximately one month.

Arch Coal's fourth quarter earnings release will be distributed via PR Newswire before the market opens on Friday, Feb. 2, and will be posted to the company's Web site at that time.

St. Louis-based Arch Coal is the nation's second largest coal producer. The company's core business is providing U.S. power generators with clean-burning, low-sulfur coal for electric generation. Through its national network of mines, Arch supplies the fuel for approximately 6 percent of the electricity generated in the United States.
